Manuella Silveira, born in 1999, lives and works in São Paulo. With a practice that unfolds mainly in oil painting on canvas, the artist works with thick layers of paint and surfaces full of textures. Between painted planes and gestures that draw the heterogeneous surfaces of her works, Manuella presents a hybrid universe, both in terms of the limits between abstraction and figuration – and in the possibilities of reading. The gestures, from repetitive and incessant to sudden and disinterested, point to the formation of a multidirectional, psychological and dreamlike territory permeated by elements belonging to the performing arts – stages, curtains, masks – conjured from the world and nature of the country to which she belongs.

Na unha, no remedinho
Kubik opens at the C.A.M.A space the first solo show by São Paulo artist Manuella Silveira (São Paulo, 1999), which, curated by Guilherme Teixeira (São Paulo, 1992), brings to the streets of Barra Funda, a neighborhood in the capital of São Paulo, a practice that, through a free notion of form, which dances from abstraction built layer after layer of tone, to the figuration that is formed in the grooves and incisions that stilettos, nails, knives, forks and fingernails circumscribe on the canvas. There are several images that take over the surface, from architectural elements – such as the pillars of the Palácio da Alvorada, located in Brasília -, nods to the tropical profusion of Brazilian fauna and flora, the embodiment of mystical anthropomorphic beings that emerge from the overlapping of tones, to the comments about painting itself.
