Ricardo Alcaide was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He currently lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.

In his first solo exhibition at Kubikgallery, Ricardo Alcaide presents a selection of recent works, stemming from his ongoing reflections on the tension between the precariousness of large urban centers and the legacy of Modernism — while also drawing from his Latin American origins and its complex sociocultural and political context. His work aims to address the current state of society through the lens of its residues and the multiple interpretations they evoke. Alcaide works across various media — photography, painting, sculpture, and drawing — to explore the urban experience and how people inhabit and navigate everyday city life. The abstract geometries in his work emerge from a process of complex analysis and reduction of presences, architectural structures, and their inherent possibilities and limitations.

In 2014, he presented the solo exhibition Settlements at Baró Galeria in São Paulo. Highlights from 2013 include Intrusions, created for Galeria Tajamar in Santiago, Chile; participation in the SOLO program curated by Julieta Gonzalez and Pablo León de la Barra for the third edition of ArtRio, Rio de Janeiro; and a solo project at Pinta New York, curated by José Roca from Tate’s Latin American Art department. That same year, he joined the interactive platform Abstraction in Action, focused on contemporary abstract art in Latin America, curated by Cecilia Fajardo-Hill in partnership with the Sayago & Pardon Collection.
