Helen Scheunemann's solo exhibition at KUBIKGALLERY São Paulo.
"In her first solo exhibition, Helen Scheunemann establishes the coordinates of a painting grounded in the perception of light—not the light that falls upon painted objects, but rather the luminosity that emerges in the transition from color to matter, through the construction of the painted surface, the filters, and the layers placed before deeper backgrounds. The accumulation of layers, revisions, and erasures only reinforces the sense that, beneath the rugged surface—scratched, stained, wounded, and healed—a diffuse and constant glow persists. At times, light in painting serves to free color from the constraints of substance; here, however, the opposite occurs: color and matter are interdependent, together creating the same atmosphere." —Pedro Köberle
